Top 10 Best Shopify Upsell Apps for 2027
The 10 best Shopify upsell apps for 2027, ranked by where the offer appears, with App Store ratings, launch dates and rupee pricing read on 3 November 2026.

Direct answer
There is no single best Shopify upsell app, because an upsell app is really four different products wearing one category name: a product-page tool, a cart tool, a checkout tool and a post-purchase tool. Decide which stage you want the offer at, then check two things on the pricing page: whether the stage you want is gated behind a higher tier, and whether the plan is banded by order volume or by feature. Our pick for one app covering all four stages without a paywall between them is Candy Rack. If you only want the page after payment, ReConvert and AfterSell have four to twelve times the reviews. If you want the cheapest competent start, Selleasy opens at ₹854.28 a month.
Every rating, review count, launch date and price below was read off the app's own Shopify App Store listing on 3 November 2026. One thing to understand about the prices.
Opened from India, the App Store shows rupees and labels them plainly: "Prices in INR are estimates for your location, based on the current exchange rate (1 INR = 0.0105 USD).
You'll be billed in your store's billing currency, at the exchange rate on the day of each charge."
So the rupee figures here are Shopify's own estimates, not native rupee list prices, and we give the dollar equivalent at Shopify's stated rate beside them. Re-check both before you buy.
Why most best Shopify upsell apps lists rank the publisher first
Before the list, the thing that makes this category hard to research. We pulled the top twenty organic results for best shopify upsell apps and shopify upsell app on 3 November 2026.
The pattern is almost total: the page ranks the app its own publisher sells.
Vitals ranks Vitals first. Upsell.com ranks Upsell.com first.
AfterSell's page is titled around the claim that AfterSell is the best upsell app for Shopify. Checkout Champ ranks Checkout Champ first.
Rep AI ranks Rep AI first. WizzCommerce ranks its own BOGO+ first.
Cartylabs labels itself "our pick". To its credit, Sternify says the quiet part out loud on the page: Sternify is our product, and we say so in its section.
That is not a conspiracy, it is just how the category funds its content. But it has a measurable consequence, and here is the cleanest example of it.
Rebuy Personalization Engine is no longer on the Shopify App Store. Its listing page now reads: "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store.
If you have support questions, contact Rebuy directly." On the same day, a third-party roundup ranking for this exact query still had Rebuy in first place.
Several others still list it.
Where we stand, so you can discount us accordingly
TopEdge AI does not sell an upsell app. We make a Shopify app for Indian D2C brands that automates cart recovery, COD confirmation and order updates, so we have nothing in this category to rank first. We do have commercial relationships with vendors in the wider Shopify ecosystem.
- The ranking criterion is stated before the ranking, so you can disagree with it.
- Every figure links to the page it was read from, with the date.
- Every entry names where it is weaker than a rival.
The four questions that decide which upsell app you need
Feature lists in this category are nearly identical, which is why they are useless for choosing. These four questions separate the apps.
1. Which stage does the offer appear at
This is the only question that genuinely cannot be fixed later, because it is architecture rather than configuration.
There are four places an offer can land, and they behave completely differently.
| Stage | What the shopper has done | Risk to the original order | Reach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product page | Chosen an item, not added it | Can distract and lose the add to cart | Highest |
| Cart or cart drawer | Added, not checked out | Can push them back into browsing | High |
| Checkout | Entering payment details | Highest. Any friction here is expensive | Medium |
| Post-purchase | Already paid | None. The order is banked | Lowest |
Read that risk column again, because it inverts the obvious strategy.
The stage with the most reach is the one where a badly judged offer costs you the sale, and the stage with no downside at all is the one that reaches fewest people.
If you have never run an upsell before, start post-purchase.
You cannot lose, and you will learn what your customers actually want alongside what they bought, which is the input you need before you risk a product-page offer.
2. Is the stage you want gated behind a higher tier
This is where published pricing stops being a number and starts being a structure, and it is the single most useful thing to check. Three models exist.
- Banded by order volume. Every tier has every feature and you pay for scale. Candy Rack, Kaching Bundles and ReConvert price this way.
- Banded by your Shopify plan. Effectively the same idea using a different proxy. In Cart Upsell prices this way.
- Banded by surface. You pay more to reach another stage. AfterSell is the clearest case: Post-Purchase, Pre-Purchase and Complete are three different prices.
None of these is dishonest, and the third can be the cheapest if you genuinely only want one stage.
The mistake is comparing the entry prices of a volume-banded app and a surface-banded app as though they buy the same thing. They do not.
3. Can you tell whether the lift was incremental
Almost every app in this category reports attributed revenue: the value of orders that passed through its offers.
That is not the same as incremental revenue, which is the value you would not have had without it, and the gap between them is every shopper who would have bought the second item anyway.
Ask whether the app supports a holdout, where a share of traffic never sees the offer. Candy Rack's listing names A/B testing via Intelligems, which is the honest version of this.
If an app cannot withhold the offer from anyone, its revenue figure is a ceiling, not a measurement, and you will need the time-based test described further down.
4. What does it cost a store your size, in your currency
Here is the comparison the other guides do not run, because they quote the entry tier and stop.
These are the monthly figures the App Store served on 3 November 2026, with the dollar column converted at Shopify's own stated rate of 1 INR = 0.0105 USD.
| App | Entry paid tier | At Shopify's stated rate | Top tier shown | Banded by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Selleasy | ₹854.28 | about $8.97 | ₹5,600.27 | Order volume |
| Frequently Bought Together | ₹948.25 | about $9.96 | ₹3,795.85 | Order volume |
| ReConvert | ₹948.25 | about $9.96 | ₹3,795.85 | Order volume |
| In Cart Upsell | ₹948.25 | about $9.96 | ₹4,745.05 | Shopify plan |
| Releasit | ₹1,090.63 | about $11.45 | ₹6,643.44 | Order volume |
| Kaching Bundles | ₹1,422.85 | about $14.94 | ₹5,694.24 | Order volume |
| Candy Rack | ₹2,846.65 | about $29.89 | ₹5,694.24 | Order volume |
| AfterSell | ₹3,321.25 | about $34.87 | ₹7,592.64 | Surface reached |
Candy Rack is not the cheapest app here and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It is roughly three times Selleasy's entry tier.
What you are buying for that is the absence of a second app later, which is the comparison worth running: one app at ₹2,846.65 against two at ₹948.25 plus ₹1,090.63 and two dashboards to reconcile.
What Shopify's own rules decide before any app does
This is the section that does not exist anywhere else in this category, and it is the most important one for a guide dated 2027.
Two platform changes and one set of hard limits now constrain what any upsell app can do, and none of them are on a vendor's pricing page.
The checkout.liquid deadline has already passed
Shopify's own developer documentation, read 3 November 2026, states that checkout.liquid "is now unsupported for the Information, Shipping, and Payment checkout steps", and that "checkout.liquid and additional scripts were sunset for the Thank you and Order status pages on August 28, 2025".
Script tags went the same way: sunset on those pages on 28 August 2025 for Plus stores, and "sunset for non-Plus stores on August 26, 2026".
Shopify's merchant-facing guide now writes it in the past tense: "August 26, 2026 was the deadline for stores on a non-Plus Shopify subscription plan to upgrade" their Thank you and Order status pages, and "as of August 28, 2025, the additional scripts section in the Checkout settings is view-only".
Why this matters for choosing an app: any thank-you page or order-status upsell that worked by injecting a script is gone, for every store, not just Plus.
So the only question worth asking a vendor is whether its offer renders as a checkout UI extension.
Every roundup published before late 2026 is quietly recommending apps against an architecture that no longer exists, and we found this deadline mentioned in none of the ranking pages we read.
Checkout upsells are Plus-only. Post-purchase upsells are not
This is the single most common misunderstanding in the category, and Shopify's documentation settles it in two lines.
Extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps "are available only to stores on a Shopify Plus plan".
But extensions "that appear after a purchase has been completed will be available to all plans except Shopify Starter".
So when an app gates "checkout upsell" behind its top tier, that is usually Shopify's restriction showing through the pricing page rather than the vendor withholding a feature.
Post-purchase and thank-you page offers, by contrast, are available to you on any plan above Starter. If someone tells you that you need Plus to run a post-purchase upsell, they are wrong.
The nine conditions under which a post-purchase offer simply never appears
Shopify documents these plainly on its post-purchase product offers page, and we found not one of the ranking pages carrying them.
Read this before you buy a post-purchase app, because on some stores it will fire on almost nobody.
- "For render to be true, all the required conditions must be met. For example, the customer's credit card must be vaulted before the post-purchase offer is displayed."
- Nothing appears if "the initial purchase was made with a gift card or any payment method other than a credit card".
- Nothing appears if "the customer chooses to check out with an installment service or a wallet service". Shopify's own examples are Klarna, Affirm, AfterPay, Apple Pay, Amazon Pay and Google Pay.
- "Orders need to be $0.50 or more to qualify for post-purchase offers."
- "Orders need to be placed through the Online Store sales channel to qualify for post-purchase upsells."
- "A customer can accept a maximum of three post-purchase offers for each checkout."
- "Only one app can be selected for post-purchase product offers." You cannot stack two.
- Offers "won't be surfaced on orders with duties and multiple currencies", nor "on orders for local delivery", nor where the checkout "results in the creation of an order without a shipping address".
- Shopify also notes that under high load, post-purchase pages will not be surfaced at all.
Check your wallet share before you buy
A store where Apple Pay and Google Pay carry half of checkout has bought a post-purchase app that reaches the other half, and the dashboard will not frame it that way. Pull your payment method split from Shopify analytics first.
Shopify also tells you your analytics will under-report it
On the same page: third-party analytics using the Shopify Pixel API "report only the purchase event and value for the initial purchase", and services relying on ScriptTag or additional scripts "have incomplete conversion data, because they're only triggered on the Order status page".
That is Shopify saying, in its own documentation, that your pixel-based reporting does not see post-purchase revenue.
It is the strongest possible argument for measuring upsell lift from Shopify's own order data rather than from a dashboard, and we come back to how in the measurement section below.
The 10 best Shopify upsell apps for 2027
The criterion, stated before the ranking: how much of the buying journey one app covers, at what price, with how much evidence that merchants keep it. Reviews break ties.
Where an entry is weaker than a rival, we say so in its own section.
The whole shortlist in one table first, so you can skip the write-ups if the answer is already obvious.
Ratings, review counts and prices were read on 3 November 2026, and the rupee figures are Shopify's own estimates at its stated rate of 1 INR = 0.0105 USD.
| # | App | Rating | Where the offer appears | Entry tier | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Candy Rack | 4.9 (266) | Product page, cart, checkout, post-purchase | ₹2,846.65 | 8 days |
| 2 | Selleasy | 4.9 (2,766) | Product page, cart, checkout | ₹854.28 | 30 days |
| 3 | ReConvert | 4.8 (3,127) | Cart, checkout, post-purchase | ₹948.25 | 14 days |
| 4 | Kaching Bundles | 5.0 (6,592) | Product page | ₹1,422.85 | 7 days |
| 5 | AfterSell | 4.9 (1,115) | Checkout, thank you page | ₹3,321.25 | 30 days |
| 6 | Frequently Bought Together | 4.9 (1,213) | Product page | ₹948.25 | 14 days |
| 7 | Releasit | 4.9 (2,419) | COD order form | Free to install | Free plan |
| 8 | In Cart Upsell | 4.8 (583) | Cart, post-purchase | ₹948.25 | 30 days |
| 9 | Kaching CartDrawer | 5.0 (1,590) | Cart drawer | Free plan | 14 days |
| 10 | Shopify native and Bundles | 2.9 (571) | Product page, cart | Free | Included |
Three things fall out of that table that the write-ups below expand on. Candy Rack is the only entry reaching all four stages.
Kaching Bundles has the most reviews of any app here by a distance and appears on almost no other list. And the free option at the bottom is Shopify's own, rated 2.9.
1. Candy Rack, for covering every stage in one app
Candy Rack by Digismoothie carries the Built for Shopify badge and is rated 4.9 from 266 reviews, live since 17 October 2018.
The listing claims offers in 8 placements spanning product page, cart, checkout and post-purchase, which is the broadest single-app coverage we found in the category.
Two things earn it the top slot.
First, the four stages are not sold separately: the plans are Lite ₹2,846.65 for up to 50 orders a month, Starter ₹3,795.85 for 51 to 200 and Growth ₹5,694.24 for 201 to 500, and every band lists the same capabilities, unlimited upsell orders and revenue, the built-in slide cart, tailored design and 24/7 chat and email support.
You pay for scale, never for access. Second, every band carries a 60-day money-back guarantee, which is longer than any free trial in this guide by a factor of two.
The functional detail is unusually deep for one app: warranties and shipping protection as offer types, gift wrap, free gifts, quantity breaks and volume discounts, a cart drawer with a rewards bar, AI recommendations where you can choose the engine including Google Gemini, A/B testing through Intelligems, and 13 interface languages.
Shopify Magic's merchant summary, which only appears on apps with 100 or more reviews and at least 4.0, reports merchants saying it reliably drives extra revenue and higher average order value and often pays for itself quickly.
Where Candy Rack is weaker
- Shortest trial here at 8 days, against 30 from AfterSell, Selleasy and In Cart Upsell. Eight days is not long enough to read a product-page test, though the 60-day money-back guarantee offsets it.
- Smallest review base of the shortlist at 266. ReConvert has 3,127 and Kaching Bundles 6,592. If you weight social proof above coverage, it is not your first pick.
2. Selleasy, for the cheapest competent start
Upsell & Cross Sell by Selleasy, built by Logbase, is rated 4.9 from 2,766 reviews and has been live since 15 July 2021.
Tiers run ₹854.28, ₹2,752.68 and ₹5,600.27, with a free plan and a 30-day free trial.
This is the app we would put in front of a store running its first upsell.
It covers frequently-bought-together bundles, in-cart offers, checkout and post-purchase one-click upsells and thank-you page cross-sells, the entry tier is the lowest here, and a month is long enough to actually learn something.
Logbase is India-based, which in practice means support hours that overlap an Indian working day.
Where it is weaker: the offer design is more templated than Candy Rack's, and there is no equivalent of the warranty and shipping-protection offer types, which matters if you sell electronics or appliances.
3. ReConvert, for the post-purchase funnel
ReConvert Post Purchase Upsell is rated 4.8 from 3,127 reviews, live since 26 September 2018, with a free plan and a 14-day trial.
Paid bands were ₹948.25 for 51 to 100 orders a month, ₹1,897.45 for 101 to 200 and ₹3,795.85 for 201 to 500.
It is the most-reviewed dedicated upsell app in the category and the deepest tool for the page after payment: thank-you page funnels, one-click post-purchase offers, order tracking blocks and birthday collection.
The listing now shows the developer as "Upsell.com ex ReConvert", so the brand is mid-rename, which is worth knowing before you search for support documentation under the old name.
Where it is weaker: its centre of gravity is after the payment, so if your gap is the product page you are buying depth you will not use.
4. Kaching Bundles, the most-reviewed app nobody lists
Kaching Bundles App & Upsells is rated 5.0 from 6,592 reviews, which makes it the most-reviewed app in Shopify's own Upsell and bundles category: more than twice ReConvert's total.
It launched 11 August 2022, is free to install, has a 7-day trial and prices at ₹1,422.85, ₹2,846.65 and ₹5,694.24.
It is worth pausing on the fact that an app with 6,592 five-star reviews is absent from almost every "best Shopify upsell apps" list we read, which tells you more about how those lists are assembled than about the app.
Its job is narrow and well done: quantity breaks and volume bundles on the product page, the "buy 2 save 10%" mechanic, which is the single highest-leverage offer for consumables and anything bought in multiples.
Where it is weaker: it is a product-page bundling tool, not a four-stage platform. There is no checkout or post-purchase funnel here, and the 7-day trial is nearly as short as Candy Rack's.
5. AfterSell, for checkout and post-purchase done properly
Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell, now owned by Rokt, is rated 4.9 from 1,115 reviews, live since 31 December 2019, with a free plan and a 30-day trial.
Tiers are Post-Purchase ₹3,321.25, Pre-Purchase ₹5,694.24 and Complete ₹7,592.64.
The one-click post-purchase and checkout offers are among the best built in the category, and a 30-day trial is genuinely enough to measure them.
We have used its pricing as the example of surface-banded tiers twice in this guide, and that is not a criticism so much as a warning to read the tier names as a feature matrix: Post-Purchase at ₹3,321.25 does not include pre-purchase offers.
Where it is weaker: the most expensive shortlist entry at the top tier, and the structure means a store that later wants pre-purchase offers faces a 71% price increase rather than a feature toggle.
6. Frequently Bought Together, for recommendations that learn
Frequently Bought Together by Code Black Belt is rated 4.9 from 1,213 reviews and launched 15 March 2017. Free plan, 14-day trial, tiers at ₹948.25, ₹2,372.05 and ₹3,795.85.
This is the Amazon-style product-page block, and it is the right choice when your catalogue is large enough that you cannot hand-pick pairings.
Nearly a decade of operation on a single focused job is its own argument.
Where it is weaker: one placement only. It will not touch your cart, checkout or post-purchase page, and you will eventually want something that does.
7. Releasit COD Form & Upsells, for cash on delivery order books
Releasit COD Form & Upsells carries the Built for Shopify badge, is rated 4.9 from 2,419 reviews, launched 31 August 2021 and is free to install, with tiers at ₹1,090.63, ₹2,846.65 and ₹6,643.44.
It is in this list because of where we found it.
Shopify's own Upsell and bundles category page opens its recommended list with two cash on delivery upsell apps, Releasit at 4.9 from 2,419 reviews and EasySell COD Form & Upsells at 4.9 from 987, ahead of every general upsell tool.
If your order book is COD-heavy, Shopify is telling you something the third-party listicles are not: the offer and the order form are the same surface, and a one-page COD form with the upsell inside it converts better than a COD checkout with an offer bolted on.
Where it is weaker: it replaces your checkout flow, which is a much bigger commitment than adding a widget, and it is built for dropshipping-style COD operations rather than for brands with their own catalogue depth.
8. ICU In Cart Upsell, the oldest one still worth installing
ICU In Cart Upsell & Cross Sell is rated 4.8 from 583 reviews and has been live since 8 December 2015, which makes it the oldest app in this guide by 15 months.
Free plan, 30-day trial, tiers at ₹948.25, ₹1,897.45 and ₹4,745.05 banded by your Shopify plan.
Cart and post-purchase offers with conditional rules, and a decade of edge cases already found by other people.
The 30-day trial and low entry price make it a low-risk second app alongside a product-page tool.
Where it is weaker: the lowest rating of the shortlist bar Zipify, the smallest review base after Candy Rack, and an admin that shows its age next to Candy Rack's or Selleasy's.
9. Kaching CartDrawer, if the cart drawer is your only gap
Kaching CartDrawer Cart Upsell is rated 5.0 from 1,590 reviews, launched 9 December 2024, free plan available with a 14-day trial.
A slide-out cart with upsell offers and a free shipping progress bar.
Narrow by design and very well rated for it.
The free shipping progress bar is the most reliable average-order-value mechanic there is, because it asks the shopper to add value to claim something they already want.
Where it is weaker: launched December 2024, so it has the shortest track record here, and a cart drawer app will conflict with any other app that also replaces your cart. Pick one.
10. Shopify's own recommendations and Bundles, before you pay anyone
Shopify ships product recommendations in its themes, and its category page carries a "Built into Shopify" panel about them plus a named merchant example: Flakon uses Shopify Bundles to pair wine with an aerator at checkout.
It costs nothing and it is in your admin now.
Try it first.
Then read this, because no vendor list will tell you: Shopify Bundles, Shopify's own first-party bundling app, is rated 2.9 from 571 reviews, while every third-party app in the same category sits between 4.5 and 5.0.
It is the lowest-rated app we encountered in Shopify's own Upsell and bundles category. The native route is the right place to start and, on the published evidence, the wrong place to stay.
Cash on delivery changes the answer completely, and nobody writes this down
Everything above is true for any Shopify store anywhere. This section is for the Indian ones, and it contains the single most consequential thing we found.
Post-purchase upsells do not fire on COD orders
Go back to Shopify's condition list above and read this line again: a post-purchase offer does not appear if "the initial purchase was made with a gift card or any payment method other than a credit card", and separately, "the customer's credit card must be vaulted before the post-purchase offer is displayed".
Cash on delivery is a payment method other than a credit card, and there is no card to vault.
That inference is ours rather than a sentence Shopify wrote about COD specifically, so treat it as an inference, but it is not a controversial one: Shopify developers have raised exactly this behaviour on Shopify's own developer forum, citing the same documentation line.
Work through what that means for an Indian store.
If 60% of your orders are COD, a post-purchase upsell app can only ever reach the other 40%, and that is before the wallet exclusions take another slice out of the prepaid half.
The dashboard will show you a healthy take rate, because it is calculated on offers shown, and the offers were only ever shown to the minority of buyers who could see them.
What a COD-heavy store should do instead
- Put the offer before checkout: product page, cart drawer, or the COD order form itself.
- That is why Releasit is on this list, and why Shopify's own category page leads with COD form apps.
- Buy a post-purchase specialist like ReConvert or AfterSell and you are buying a tool for the smaller half of your order book.
And the revenue you do book on COD is not all collectible
An upsell on a prepaid order is money in the bank the moment it is accepted. An upsell on a cash on delivery order is a claim on money, collectible only if the parcel is accepted at the door.
Those are different things, and the published return-to-origin figures make the difference large.
GoKwik figures published by First Resort's 2026 India returns and RTO research put COD return to origin near 26% against under 2% for prepaid.
Unicommerce's India D2C Report 2026, built from more than 410 million shipments across 6,000-plus brands, recorded festive-quarter COD returns around 58% against under 15% for prepaid.
So on the COD half of your order book, roughly a quarter of the extra revenue an upsell app reports never arrives.
If 60% of your orders are COD, the blended discount on reported lift is about 15%, before anything else.
The second item can move you into the next courier slab
This is the cost that surprises people, and it comes straight from the courier's own arithmetic.
Amazon Shipping India's worked example takes a ₹799 cotton kurta: volumetric weight of (32 x 25 x 5) / 5,000 comes to 0.80 kg, which bills at the 1 kg slab, so a 300 gram product carries ₹85 of national freight.
Add a cross-sell item to that parcel and you may cross into the next slab. On a delivered order that is fine, you sold more.
On a returned one you pay the higher slab twice, because Amazon Shipping India puts one RTO parcel at ₹180 to ₹240 in direct logistics: ₹60 to ₹100 forward, ₹50 to ₹80 reverse, ₹20 to ₹40 repackaging and quality check, ₹10 to ₹20 inventory holding in transit.
The rule this gives you
- Report upsell lift separately for COD and prepaid, and net of shipping.
- A dashboard showing blended attributed revenue cannot tell you whether the offer made money on the half that pays at the door.
- Above about 50% COD, prove the margin on prepaid orders first, then extend.
The fix is upstream of the upsell app
None of this argues against upselling COD orders. It argues for confirming them.
If a COD order is confirmed with the buyer before dispatch, the upsell you just sold is far more likely to be accepted, and the arithmetic above stops biting.
That is the job our own product does, and it sits before the upsell app rather than competing with it: see COD confirmation and how to reduce RTO with WhatsApp COD confirmation, or the longer argument for moving buyers to prepaid in COD to prepaid on WhatsApp.
What a normal result looks like, and the revenue you need to break even
This category markets itself on 20% and 30% revenue lifts.
There is exactly one original dataset we could find that says what actually happens at scale, and it comes from the vendor we put at number one, which makes it worth more rather than less, because it undercuts their own marketing.
Digismoothie published upsell benchmarks from 3,199 Shopify stores on 10 September 2026, updated 3 October 2026.
The sample is the stores running Candy Rack that showed at least one offer between 1 January and 31 August 2026: 39,007 offers, 218.6 million offer views and 1.91 million upsell units sold, reported as medians across stores.
The headline figures:
| Measure | Median store | Top 10% of stores |
|---|---|---|
| Incremental revenue from upsells | 2.4% | close to 9% |
| Take rate (sold against viewed) | 2.4% | close to 10% |
| AI-picked offers | 3.2% | |
| Hand-picked offers | 1.9% | |
| Offers showing 1 product | 1.5% | |
| Offers showing 3 or more products | 3.1% |
Read the first row carefully, because it reframes the whole category. The median store gets a 2.4% lift in revenue, not 20%.
Digismoothie says as much themselves: the best stores reach 20% and more, "which is often the number you see in the marketing materials".
Two other findings in that dataset are worth acting on immediately, because they cost nothing: discounts barely move the needle, since offers with no discount convert about the same as offers at 1 to 20% off, and showing three or four products beats showing one by roughly double.
The break-even calculation nobody publishes
Put the 2.4% median against the subscription and you get the number that should actually decide your purchase.
The arithmetic below is ours, on Digismoothie's published median and a 40% gross margin assumption you should replace with your own.
A 2.4% revenue lift at 40% gross margin turns into roughly 0.96% of revenue in extra gross profit.
To cover a subscription you therefore need monthly revenue of about the fee divided by 0.0096:
| Entry tier | Monthly fee | Monthly revenue needed to break even at the median |
|---|---|---|
| Selleasy | ₹854.28 | about ₹89,000 |
| ReConvert, FBT, In Cart Upsell | ₹948.25 | about ₹99,000 |
| Kaching Bundles | ₹1,422.85 | about ₹1,48,000 |
| Candy Rack | ₹2,846.65 | about ₹2,97,000 |
| AfterSell | ₹3,321.25 | about ₹3,46,000 |
This is the honest reason we did not simply tell everyone to buy our top pick.
If you are doing under roughly ₹3 lakh a month, median performance does not cover Candy Rack's entry tier from gross profit alone, and Selleasy at about ₹89,000 of break-even revenue is the rational choice until you grow into the broader tool.
If you are well past that, the single-app argument wins. Run the division with your own margin before you decide, and remember the median is a median: half of stores do worse.
How to tell whether the app actually made you money
Average order value went up is not evidence. It goes up on its own when your product mix shifts, when a festive campaign brings different buyers, or when you raise prices.
Here is a test any store can run without a data team.
- Record the baseline for 14 days before you install anything. Average order value, conversion rate and units per order, split by COD and prepaid. If you skip this you have nothing to compare against and the trial is wasted.
- Turn on exactly one offer, in one place. Not four. You cannot attribute a change to a widget when four widgets arrived together.
- Alternate on and off by week for six weeks. Three weeks on, three weeks off, interleaved. Then compare the pooled on-weeks against the pooled off-weeks. This is the poor man's holdout and it controls for the seasonality that ruins month-on-month comparisons.
- Watch conversion rate, not just order value. This is the step people skip. A pre-purchase offer that lifts average order value 9% while costing 4% of conversion rate can easily be a net loss. Littledata's benchmark across 436 Shopify stores puts the median conversion rate at 1.4% of sessions, so there is not much room to give any away.
- Net out the returns. An accepted upsell that comes back is worse than no upsell, because you paid freight on the heavier parcel in both directions.
- Read the order data, not the pixel. Shopify documents that analytics using its Pixel API "report only the purchase event and value for the initial purchase", and that ScriptTag-based services "have incomplete conversion data". If you are measuring a post-purchase offer through GA4 or an ad platform, you are measuring it with a tool Shopify has told you cannot see it.
For context on what a normal order value looks like, Littledata's median across 436 Shopify stores was $110 for the 90 days from 27 July to 24 October 2026, generated on 28 October 2026.
By category, its 90-day medians to the same date were beauty and skincare $69 across 39 stores, health and supplements $75 across 35, food and beverage $85 across 32, fashion and clothing $113 across 76, and home and furniture $211 across 63.
Littledata regenerates these on a rolling window, so the number will have moved by the time you read this.
If your order value already sits at the top of your category band, an upsell app has less to add than its marketing suggests.
Apps still on other lists that should not be
Checked 3 November 2026, in the spirit of the Rebuy example above.
| App | State on 3 Nov 2026 | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Rebuy Personalization Engine | Listing states it is not currently available on the Shopify App Store | Do not shortlist it on the strength of a 2026 listicle |
| Zipify OneClickUpsell | Live, 4.5 from 572 reviews, 30-day trial | Fine, but the lowest rating of the major apps we checked |
| ReConvert | Live, developer now shows as Upsell.com ex ReConvert | Search support docs under both names |
The general lesson is cheap to apply: before you install anything from a roundup, open its App Store listing and check the rating, the review count and that it still exists.
That takes a minute and it is the only verification step in this process that nobody can do for you.
What to install first, by situation
| If this is you | Start here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Never run an upsell before | Selleasy or post-purchase only | 30-day trial, ₹854.28 entry, no risk to the original order |
| Want one app for everything | Candy Rack | 8 placements, no stage paywalled, 60-day guarantee |
| Only want the page after payment | ReConvert or AfterSell | 3,127 and 1,115 reviews on exactly that job |
| Sell consumables or multipacks | Kaching Bundles | Quantity breaks are the highest-leverage offer for repeat items |
| Large catalogue, cannot hand-pick pairs | Frequently Bought Together | Learns pairings instead of needing rules |
| COD-heavy Indian order book | Releasit, plus COD confirmation upstream | Shopify's own category ranks COD forms first, and confirmation is what makes the upsell collectible |
| Cart drawer is the only gap | Kaching CartDrawer | 5.0 from 1,590 reviews on one narrow job |
| Not sure there is a problem yet | Shopify's native recommendations | Free, already installed, tells you whether anyone bites |
The order value you cannot upsell your way out of
One closing caution, because it is the mistake we see most often. Upselling raises the value of orders you already win.
It does nothing about the orders you lose, and for most stores the second number is much larger.
Around 70.22% of online carts are abandoned on the Baymard Institute's average across 50 published studies, and Littledata's Shopify sample puts median cart abandonment at 79%.
If you have no recovery running, that is the bigger number and it should come first.
We wrote the comparison of those tools separately in the best Shopify app for abandoned cart recovery in India, the workflow in Shopify abandoned cart recovery on WhatsApp, and where the drop-offs actually sit in the ecommerce funnel drop-off benchmarks.
Get recovery running, then come back and raise the value of what is left.
If you are still working out whether the unit economics support paying for either, start with how to run a profitable ecommerce business in India, which is the arithmetic underneath all of this.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Shopify upsell app in 2027?
It depends on where you want the offer to appear, and that is the whole answer. If you want one app covering the product page, cart, checkout and post-purchase without paying more to unlock a stage, Candy Rack is the pick: its listing claims offers in 8 placements and its plans are banded by monthly order volume rather than by feature, so the cheapest tier reaches the same surfaces as the dearest one.
If you only care about the page after payment, ReConvert and AfterSell are specialists with far more reviews. If you want the cheapest competent entry point, Selleasy starts at ₹854.28 a month. Decide the placement first and the shortlist writes itself.
Is there a free Shopify upsell app?
Yes, several, and Shopify itself ships product recommendations in its themes at no cost. Every app in this guide publishes either a free plan or a free trial. What free usually means is a cap: a monthly order ceiling, a single offer type, or vendor branding on the widget.
The honest comparison is not free against paid, it is what the free tier caps you at against what one extra accepted upsell a day is worth to you. Note also that Shopify Bundles, Shopify’s own first-party bundling app, is rated 2.9 from 571 reviews, so free and good are not the same thing here.
What is the difference between an upsell and a cross-sell on Shopify?
An upsell offers a better or larger version of what the shopper already chose, so a 500ml bottle instead of the 250ml. A cross-sell offers something that goes with it, so the aerator with the wine.
Shopify’s own app category treats them as one thing called "Upsell and cross-sell", and in practice almost every app does both. The distinction that actually matters operationally is not upsell against cross-sell, it is pre-purchase against post-purchase, because a post-purchase offer cannot lose you the original order and a pre-purchase one can.
Does a post-purchase upsell need the customer to enter card details again?
No, and that is the point of it. A post-purchase offer appears after payment is authorised and charges the payment method already on file, so the shopper accepts with one click. This is also why post-purchase is the safest place to start: the original order is already banked, so a declined offer costs you nothing. The trade-off is reach, because the offer only ever sees shoppers who already bought.
How much do Shopify upsell apps cost in India?
Read on 3 November 2026 from an Indian IP, the App Store served these monthly rupee figures: Selleasy from ₹854.28, Frequently Bought Together and ReConvert from ₹948.25, Releasit from ₹1,090.63, Kaching Bundles from ₹1,422.85, Candy Rack from ₹2,846.65 and AfterSell from ₹3,321.25.
Shopify states you are billed in your store own currency at the exchange rate on the day of each charge, so these are what an Indian store sees rather than a conversion we did ourselves.
Re-check before you buy, because app pricing moves more often than these guides get updated.
Do post-purchase upsells work on cash on delivery orders?
No, on our reading of Shopify’s own documentation, and this is the most important thing an Indian merchant can know about this category. Shopify states that a post-purchase offer requires the customer’s credit card to be vaulted, and that no offer appears where the initial purchase used a gift card or any payment method other than a credit card.
Cash on delivery is neither a credit card nor vaultable, and Shopify developers have raised the same behaviour on Shopify’s own forum. So if most of your orders are COD, put your offers on the product page, in the cart drawer or inside the COD order form, where every buyer can see them, rather than buying a post-purchase specialist that reaches only your prepaid minority.
What is a good upsell take rate on Shopify?
Around 2.4% is the median, and roughly 10% puts you in the top tenth of stores. Those figures come from Digismoothie’s published benchmarks across 3,199 Shopify stores, 39,007 offers and 218.6 million offer views between 1 January and 31 August 2026.
The same dataset puts median incremental revenue from upselling at 2.4%, with the top 10% near 9%, so the 20% and 30% lifts in vendor marketing describe the best stores rather than a typical one.
Two free wins from that data: offers showing three or more products convert at 3.1% against 1.5% for a single product, and discounting barely helps, since no-discount offers convert about the same as offers at 1 to 20% off.
Do I need Shopify Plus to run upsells at checkout?
For offers inside checkout itself, yes. For offers after it, no. Shopify’s documentation states that extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps are available only to stores on a Shopify Plus plan, while extensions that appear after a purchase has been completed are available on all plans except Shopify Starter.
So when an app puts checkout upsell behind its top tier, that is usually Shopify’s restriction showing through the pricing page rather than the vendor holding a feature back. Anyone telling you that a post-purchase or thank-you page upsell needs Plus is mistaken.
Did the checkout.liquid deadline affect upsell apps?
Yes, and it has already passed, which is why a 2027 shortlist should look different from a 2025 one. Shopify’s documentation states that checkout.liquid and additional scripts were sunset for the Thank you and Order status pages on 28 August 2025, that script tags were sunset on those pages on the same date for Plus stores, and that 26 August 2026 was the deadline for non-Plus stores to upgrade.
Any thank-you page upsell that worked by injecting a script no longer works anywhere. The only question worth asking a vendor now is whether its offers render as checkout UI extensions.
Will an upsell app slow my Shopify store down?
It can, and this is the cost nobody puts on the pricing page. Most upsell widgets load JavaScript on the product page or in the cart drawer, which is exactly where you least want extra weight.
The Built for Shopify badge is the nearest thing to an objective filter, because Shopify only grants it against published performance and app-design criteria. Test it properly: run Lighthouse on a product page before you install and again after, on the same template, and keep the app only if the offer earns more than the speed cost.
How many upsell offers should one store run at once?
Start with one, in one place, and measure it for a fortnight before adding another. The common failure is stacking a product-page add-on, a cart drawer offer, a checkout offer and a post-purchase funnel at the same time, then finding average order value up and conversion rate down, with no way to tell which widget did which. One offer at a time is slower and it is the only way you learn anything.
Does upselling a cash on delivery order carry extra risk?
Yes, and for Indian stores this is the part that decides whether the app pays for itself. An upsell only earns you anything on a COD order if the parcel is accepted at the door. GoKwik figures published by First Resort put COD return to origin near 26% against under 2% for prepaid, so roughly a quarter of the extra revenue you just booked on COD orders never arrives.
Worse, a second item can push the parcel into the next courier weight slab, and on a return you pay freight twice. Measure upsell lift separately for COD and prepaid, or you will be reading a number that is about a quarter too kind.
Can I run an upsell app alongside an abandoned cart recovery app?
Yes, and most stores should, because they do opposite jobs: one raises the value of the orders you win, the other wins back the ones you lost. Make sure they do not both message the same shopper about the same cart.
The thing to check is suppression: when an order is created, every pending recovery message should cancel, including any triggered after an upsell changed the cart contents.
How do I know the upsell actually increased revenue rather than moved it?
Compare order value against a holdout rather than against last month. If the app can only show you total revenue through its own offers, it is reporting attributed revenue, not incremental revenue, and those differ whenever the shopper would have bought the second item anyway.
The cleanest test most stores can run is a time-based one: alternate the offer on and off by week for six weeks and compare average order value and conversion rate across the on weeks and off weeks together, since conversion is the number an aggressive pre-purchase offer quietly costs you.
Which upsell app does Shopify itself recommend?
Shopify does not endorse a single app, but its own Upsell and bundles category page is worth reading as a signal. On 3 November 2026 it opened its recommended list with two cash on delivery upsell apps, Releasit COD Form & Upsells at 4.9 from 2,419 reviews and EasySell COD Form & Upsells at 4.9 from 987, ahead of the general upsell tools that dominate third-party listicles.
If your order book is COD-heavy, that ordering is telling you something the listicles are not.
